Welcome to EMU!

Hello fuksi!
First of all, a huge congratulations on your new study place! It’s amazing to have you as part of our team of energy transition pioneers. By studying energy transition, you’ll be diving into a meaningful field of the future, where skilled professionals are needed everywhere in society. Plus, you’ll get to spend your student years in the newly established and already thriving Energiamurroskilta. And best of all, you’ll get to wear the most striking overalls in all of Tampere: pink!
The orientation week is set to kick off with a head start on Sunday, August 18 (at least as it stands now). You should clear your schedule for the entire following week, as it will be your chance to get to know the university, your studies, and your new guild. You won’t want to miss orientation week! Before that, this page contains plenty of useful information about starting your studies, so it’s a good idea to check it out in advance. Be sure to also follow our social media channels—links can be found at the bottom of this page.
If you have any questions before the start of the fall semester, you can contact the freshman committee—their contact details can be found below. See you in the fall!

Checklist before studies
Accept the study place
First and foremost, remember to accept your study place! The deadline for accepting the study place was provided to you along with your admission notice.
You can accept your study place on the "Applications" tab in Opintopolku.
Register as present
Before the start of the semester, you must register as present. At the same time, you need to pay the student union membership fee (€65). Additionally, if you wish, you can also purchase a SportUni membership.
You can find the instructions for completing the academic year registration here.
Activate your TUNI credentials
Each student is provided with their own credentials for Tampere University services. With your TUNI credentials, you can access services such as email and Sisu.
You can activate your TUNI credentials after registering as present for the academic year. Instructions for activating your credentials can be found here.
Apply for student financial aid
Once you have been informed about your study place, it's a good idea to apply for student financial aid early, to ensure the decision is made before the start of your studies. Student financial aid is the primary source of income for students.
Student financial aid is applied for directly through Kela. Instructions for applying for student financial aid can be found here.
Pay the YTHS fee
The YTHS fee, which is the healthcare fee for higher education students, is a mandatory fee for all higher education students. YTHS provides healthcare services for all university students during their studies.
Instructions for paying the YTHS fee can be found here.
Download Telegram
Telegram is a messaging app similar to WhatsApp, widely used in the higher education community. It also includes, for example, a fuksi discussion group and the guild's announcement channel.
You can download Telegram from your phone's app store, and it also works in a web browser.
Apply for housing
It's a good idea to start looking for housing as soon as you accept your study place. The waiting lists for student apartments can be long, so the earlier you start your search, the better. Since energy transition studies are taught at the Hervanta campus, it is recommended to look for housing in Hervanta.
There are two student housing foundations in Tampere: TOAS and POAS. You can also search for housing from private landlords.
Order a student card
The physical student card offers many benefits and also serves as an access card at the university. It's a good idea to order the student card from the student union right at the beginning of August when the new academic year starts, so that you can use it shortly after your studies begin.
More information and instructions for ordering the card can be found here.
Get familiar with your studies and EMU
Last but not least, it's a good idea to get familiar with the energy transition studies and your future guild! By exploring these in advance, you'll get a preliminary idea of what the studies and student life will bring this fall.
You can explore the curriculum of energy transition studies here.
You can learn more about the Energiamurroskilta on their website and social media, which you can find here.

FAQ
Tarkemman aikataulun orientaatioviikon ohjelmasta saat lähempänä opintojen alkamista.
Milloin saan haalarit?
Haalariprojekti, eli sponsoreiden hankkiminen haalareita varten, käynnistyy heti syksyn alussa. Tavoitteena on saada haalarit mahdollisimman nopeasti jo syksyn aikana. Kannattaakin jo etukäteen miettiä, löytyisikö lähipiiristä mahdollisesti sponsoroinnista kiinnostuneita yrityksiä!
Miten selitän vanhemmilleni mitä opiskelen?
Energiamurroksella tarkoitetaan fossiilivapaaseen energiatalouteen siirtymistä. Energiamurroksen koulutus valmistaa diplomi-insinöörejä johtamaan tätä prosessia. Energiamurroksen koulutus käsittelee energiamurroksen teemoja laaja-alaisesti sähkö-, energia-, automaatio- ja rakennustekniikan kautta. Energiamurros on tulevaisuuden ala, jossa pystyy erikoistumaan esimerkiksi vetytalouteen ja sektori-integraatioon.
